Anna Leigh Moore Art

Artist Statement:

Anna Leigh Moore is a Utah-based painter who finds inspiration in the untamed lands of the West. Her work explores the eternal and fleeting aspects of the landscape, and how our experience shapes them. Using both watercolor and oils, Anna captures the dynamic deserts and jagged peaks of Utah.

Her process begins on adventures in wild places. First, memorizing the topography with her physical body—whether hiking, biking, skiing or climbing—and then immortalizing that experience in paint.

Beginning on site (typically sitting in the dirt) Anna captures important details in a small sketchbook before finalizing the final piece at her studio. Using thin layers of medium, she works swiftly to keep the essence of a place, and the initial experience without getting lost in the details.

Anna's work intimately ties the viewer to the land, sharing the sublime joy and freedom found in wilderness, while sparking a desire to protect our wild places.
